One week with English lessons in England, February 09

Last February, I have been in Brighton in a homestay sought by “Anglais en France”. Why? I’m going to tell you my story (a summary).
I’m Spanish. In my village, there was no choice in foreign language: it was French. When I was 14, I was ill the summer before joining the college, so I couldn’t move to English and I had to study French for four more years. In the university, English was a hard subject for me, but, as it was written, I could have the Aeronautical Engineer Diploma.
Now, I work for Airbus France in Toulouse. I need English every day at my job and I know that my level is not “really perfect”… So, I needed to improve it. To do that, I got in touch with “Anglais en France” and I asked them if they could help me to find a stay in England. My wishes were very limited because I’m married and I have two daughters, so I had to have my stay during the French scholar holydays of February (and moreover not too expensive!!!).
“Anglais en France” found it for me : one week in home stay including 20 hours of English lessons. It was a real good choice for me because the house owner was an English teacher and I could study and practise to improve my English level quickly. I know that one week is not enough but it’s better than nothing … I really enjoyed my stay in Shoreham-by-sea (close to Brighton) and I recommend you the experience.

Nous avons été chercher Guillaume et Augustin hier.
Ils ont été enchantés chacun selon leur caractère.
Les familles d'accueil se sont attachées aux enfants et vice-versa.
Chacun des enfants a trouvé la famille qui correspondait à son caractère. Augustin s'est épanoui durant la 2ème semaine.
Ils renouvelleront leurs expériences l'année prochaine vers une destination en France pour un temps plus long: 3 voir 4 semaines du 15 juillet au 15 août. Maïlys ira aux mêmes dates que ses frères cette année.
Il se peut que vous soyez contactés pour l'année prochaine par des familles qui souhaitent organiser ce type de séjour pour leurs enfants.
A quelle date peut-on se contacter pour mettre en place les séjours d'été??

We’re so pleased that Augustin enjoyed his stay ; he was a pleasure to teach and to take care of. He is a charming young man, and very willing to learn.
This has been our first time hosting in France – we hosted foreign students back in England some time ago – and enjoyed the experience.
In hindsight, we would have taken Augustin’s sister, but we were not too sure how things would work out.
It was particularly good for me to get back into teaching and I look forward to hosting our next student!

Guillaume was charming and a pleasure to have around.
He wasnt that keen on the written side but his parents had warned me he was a little lazy on that front.
Teaching was ok ,it was difficult to know what sort of specific exercises would be the most beneficial so I opted for a whole range of techniques.
We did some comprehension , some tenses some common phrases some grammar challenges on the bbc.

Nos filles ont passé un trés agréable séjour . La famille S est charmante, elle a pris en charge nos 2 filles avec beaucoup de simplicité, gentillesse et intérêt.
C'est une famille à recommander. J'espère bien pouvoir y envoyer Blandine l' année prochaine en toute confiance.

Hi, everything went really well & we all enjoyed having the girls to stay.
They were very well behaved & polite & we had a really good time with them.
I took them to a new swimming pool, a riding lesson, lots of walks with the dog & they also had a small ride on my horse.
I hope they also enjoyed it & benefited from the experience.

One week without lessons, in France, June 09

Edouard a passé une très agréable semaine, chez des gens charmants, qui l'on accueilli très chaleureusement.
Il s'est un peu réconcilié avec l'anglais mais a encore du mal à parler, il a un peu honte de ne pas bien parler....! Cela dit, il comprend de mieux en mieux.
Je pense que nous renouvellerons l'opération régulièrement....!
C'est pourquoi, nous tenions à vous remercier car nous sommes très contents de vos services.
Tout a été suivi avec sérieux et dans la confiance. Pour nous, c'était important.

We certainly enjoyed having Edouard here and were really pleased with the way that he settled in with us and with the progress he made.
At the beginning of his stay Edouard was naturally very quiet and reserved. He said that he hadn't been away from home before. With the small amount of English which he had, we stuck very much to basics and repeated ourselves often. Edouard was very helpful and willing to do anything suggested.
Each day we sat down together and there was a more formal hour of English with the dictionary being much used.
We played a little on the fact that our French wasn't perfect and that it was alright to make mistakes and to ask for help or to ask someone to repeat something more slowly. It boosted Edouard’s confidence.
We told Edouard that he would be most welcome to visit us again. (If he were one of my own children I would be extremely proud of him, he is a lovely lad).

Lucie and François, 15 and 13

Bonjour, je vous écris ce message pour vous dire que nous avons passé une semaine vraiment extraordinaire : Pauline et Ian ont été super : nous sommes beaucoup sortis, avons appris beaucoup de choses. Ce fut comme un voyage en Angleterre : nous avons parlé seulement l'anglais et avons partagé leur quotidien. Lucie.
Bonjour, tout comme Lucie j'ai trouvé cette semaine géniale! Elle nous a permis de réviser nos bases en anglais et d'apprendre de nouveaux mots ainsi que de nouvelle expressions. Avec Ian nous avons partagé beaucoup de choses comme la guitare , la course a pied le matin , des artistes musicaux... Nous étions en immersion complète ! Nous étions entourés d'anglais , la télé était en anglais , l'ordinateur aussi! J'ai trouvé cette semaine très intéressante , instructive et très sympatique. François
Les enfants ont été très bien accueillis et quand nous sommes allés les chercher, nous les avons trouvés très à l'aise, discutant en anglais comme s'ils l'avaient toujours fait. Lucie et François ont partagé avec Pauline et Ian des centres d'intérêts communs. Au delà de la langue, ce séjour a été très positif pour eux car Pauline et Ian ont su établir des liens amicaux : de retour à la maison, les enfants ont même eu un petit moment de blues. Nous pensons vraiment que Lucie et François ne pouvaient pas "tomber" mieux. Mme Le Gaillard

Just to let you know it's going fantastically.
Lucie and Francois seem to enjoy themselves and learn a lot at the same time. I think we made progress with vocabulary and pronunciation.
Most of all they want to learn which is so rewarding. We actually spend quite a bit of time going over grammar points which is interesting for us too - it's amazing how much you forget !!
There's a hilarious game of Monopoly going on at the moment where the 2 kids are fleecing Ian who's hopeless at board games - I never remembered it being so funny. We've also played croquet and scrabble, been swimming, running and walking, visited a stately home, had English tea with china cups and cakes, had a friend round for dinner, been to a local "rock concert", visited friends with their plunge pool and hot tub and done some gardening, piano and guitar playing.
Tonight we're off to St Antonin to see an English film and tomorrow, the local market and then river swimming.
I have never talked so much in my life but it is paying off. Their English and confidence are growing all the time. Their parents come to collect them on Sunday when we're doing a BBQ for everyone.

Valentine, 17 ans
Une semaine sans cours, en France, Août 09

Nous avons maintenant recuperé notre fille, elle est tres contente de son sejour.
Suzan et Phillipe sont vraiment des gens charmants, Valentine a bien profité de l'immersion dans ce petit coin anglais en France.
Suzan a vraiment eu le souci de faire des tas de choses avec notre fille, elle lui a fait rencontrer également de jeunes anglais de son âge, ce qui lui fut tres profitable. Nous avons eu nous-mêmes un très agreable contact avec la famille T et ce dès notre première rencontre. Nous sommes donc satisfaits sur tous les points et vous remercions de nous avoir mis en contact avec Suzan et Phillipe.

Nous vous remercions d'avoir organisé le séjour de Kim Linh et de Maylène en Bourgogne. Merci à Maggie pour s'être si bien occupée d'elles.
Elles ont adoré leur semaine. Nous avons bien vu que Maggie a tout fait pour que les filles se sentent comme chez elles. Elles sont maintenant beaucoup plus à l'aise avec l'anglais oral.
Nos filles ont des caractères tellement opposés, que cela a posé quelques problèmes à Maggie pour les occuper, mais elle s'en est très bien sortie.
Nous renouvelleront l'expérience l'année prochaine, mais en mettant les filles dans 2 familles différentes (sur le conseil de Maggie).
Dans tous les cas, nous sommes ravis de vos prestations.

Bonjour,
Nous avons trouvé notre séjour chez Maggie vraiment génial ! Nous n’avons pas eu le temps de nous ennuyer et tout en anglais bien sur.
Tous les jours, elle nous emmenait faire quelque chose (accrobranche, visites de chateaux, marché…) Nous parlions régulièrement l’anglais et maintenant nous comprenons beaucoup mieux.
Nous avons passé une très bonne semaine à la campagne, entourées d’animaux.

We had a great time!
The tree climbing (accrobranche) was a hit ! They also visited a bee farm, Cormatin chateauz, a maze, had a bourginion meal, some english lessons, made dinner one night, played with lots of puzzles, went to a goat farm where we bought the cheese, and the cave where we bought some wine for their mum.
It was successful.
Today I posted their photos and sent them a card. I do hope I can be of service again.

Deux semaines sans cours, en France, Août 09

Bonjour.
Voici le bilan de mon séjour chez Rachel et Alex :
Tout s’est très bien passé : je me suis très vite sentie à l’aise avec eux. Les garçons étaient très gentils et attentionnés !
Nous sommes sortis plusieurs fois pour visiter une galerie d’art, faire du shopping à Bordeaux ou bien aller à la piscine…
Lorsque nous restions chez eux, nous regardions des films, tous ensemble. Nous avons joué au tennis, au volley et à des jeux de société. J’ai lu un livre parmi la montagne d’ouvrage que Rachel avait sorti…
Je me suis tout de suite senti bien avec Rachel, qui a su me mettre en confiance ! Elle est devenue une très bonne amie !
J’ai beaucoup aimé Alex également qui m’a sincèrement touché en me disant que je serais toujours la bienvenue chez eux !
Et comme je l’ai dit plus haut, Daniel et Charlie étaient tout les deux très gentils avec moi !
Même leurs animaux étaient hilarants !
Je garderais de ces deux semaines de très, très bons souvenirs.
Et merci de m’avoir permis de les connaître !

It is going very well and Alice is the perfect guest & so fun to have...... nice to have a girl in the house.
We are all having a nice time. Thank you. .../...
Alice went home fine, she didn't want to go though. She was lovely & wants to come next year. She can anytime she likes.
I enjoyed it very much, though she was very quiet & shy but we got through it ok.
We will be keeping in touch.
